Who is the West Main church of Christ

A family of believers in Franklin, Tennessee, striving to be Christians only, following the pattern of the New Testament.

An Independent, Congregational Family

West Main church of Christ in Franklin, TN is an autonomous body of believers. We have no earthly headquarters, no denominational affiliation, and no man-made creeds. Our only guide is the Bible, and our only head is Jesus Christ.

How We Lead

Following the New Testament example, we operate as a congregational family. While we do not currently have a formal hierarchy of elders or deacons, we believe in the “priesthood of all believers,” where every member is encouraged to use their unique talents to serve God and the community in love.

The New Testament Pattern

We believe that the first-century church serves as a permanent pattern for us today. Our goal is to “speak where the Bible speaks and stay silent where the Bible is silent.”

The Authority of Scripture

We believe the Bible is the inspired, complete, and final Word of God. We use it as our only source of authority in all matters of faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Simple, Scriptural Worship

Our worship consists of the five key elements found in the early church:

Singing: A cappella congregational singing (Ephesians 5:19).

Prayer: Joining together in humble communication with God.

Preaching: Studying and applying the Word of God to our lives.

Lord’s Supper: Observing communion every Sunday (Acts 20:7).

Giving: Members contributing cheerfully as they have been prospered.

The Biblical Response to the Gospel

God’s Part: The Foundation of Grace

Before we could respond, God acted out of love to make reconciliation possible:

God Sent His Son: Out of love, God sent Jesus to the world to save sinners (John 3:16; 1 John 4:10).

Jesus Shed His Blood: Christ’s sacrifice on the cross provided the only means for the remission of sins (Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:19).

The Spirit Revealed the Word: Through the Holy Spirit, God provided the inspired scriptures to guide us into all truth (John 16:13).

Man’s Part: Our Response to the Gospel

In response to God’s grace, the New Testament outlines these steps for those seeking to be saved:

Hear the Gospel: Faith begins by listening to the message of Christ (Romans 10:17).

Believe in Christ: We must have an active, trusting faith that Jesus is the Son of God (John 8:24).

Repent of Sins: Repentance is a sincere change of mind and action, turning away from our own will and turning toward God (Luke 13:3).

Confess Faith: We publicly acknowledge our belief that Jesus is Lord and the Christ (Romans 10:9-10).

Be Baptized: In the New Testament, baptism was always an immersion in water for the forgiveness of sins, representing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4).

Live Faithfully: The Christian life is a journey of growth. We are called to remain steadfast in our devotion, service, and study of God’s Word for the rest of our lives (Revelation 2:10).
