God’s Faithfulness

Psalm 105

The arrangement of Psalm 105 and Psalm 106 seems intentional.

Psalm 105 speaks of God’s faithfulness and power.

Psalm 106 tells the sad story of repeated failure and rebellion on the part of God’s people.

Psalm 105

The first 15 verses of Psalm 105 are found in 1 Chronicles 16:8-22, which is attributed to David.

It was sung for the bringing of the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem.

David is very likely the author of Psalm 105.

Psalm 105:1-7

Call to Worship:

Psalm 105 opens by encouraging worshippers to give thanks, sing praise, talk of God’s works, and seek His strength and presence continually.

Psalm 105:8-12

Covenant with the Patriarchs:

God is praised for remembering His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, promising them the land of Canaan.

Psalm 105:13-22

Protection of His People:

God protected them when they were few in number.

Psalm 105:23-38

Deliverance from Egypt:

This text details God multiplying Israel and bringing them out of slavery in Egypt through Moses and Aaron.

Psalm 105:39-45

Wilderness Provision and Promise:

God is praised for providing protection (cloud/fire), food (quail/bread), and water in the wilderness, ultimately fulfilling His promise to give them the land of Canaan so they would keep His statutes.
